NEWSLETTER 12.3.18

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Thank You

Thank you for buying a daffodil badge and supporting Marie Curie Cancer Care. We raised £22.69 for this charity.

The Friends of St Gabriel’s

The Mother’s Day Sale was very successful! Thank you very much for supporting it and huge thanks to The Friends of St Gabriel’s for running this. They raised a total of £309.

Parents’ Evening

Our Parents’ Evenings are running on Tuesday and Wednesday and will take place in the hall. Please use the side door, near to Class 1, to enter through.

If you have no-one to look after your child, you will be able to bring them to watch a children’s DVD in Class 1. Children will not be permitted to remain with you in the hall. I hope that you will all be able to attend. It’s always a lovely opportunity to see the work that your child has been doing and to find out lots of good news about them.

Y2 Numeracy Course For Parents

Last Thursday’s course started really well and it was great to join the group and see the fun the children were having when they joined their parents. If you are a Year 2 parent but were unable to join us last week, you are welcome to do so on Thursday for our second session which will run from 9.00-11.00am.

Show Racism the Red Card

Children in Classes 4 and 5 will be having Show Racism the Red Card workshops on Friday. These are always very thought provoking and are supported by a strong sporting message.

Class 2 Enterprise Sale

The first of a series of Enterprise Sales during the year, starts on Friday with the Class 2 sale. It begins at 2.30pm in the hall and they are hoping that lots of their parents will be able to join them!

Attendance

The class with the best attendance last week was Class 5. Congratulations!

Late Arrivals

Thank you very much indeed for your very positive response to our new late arrival system! Throughout the week, numbers arriving late reduced considerably and this helped to ensure that nearly every child was in their class learning, first thing in the morning. Both Mrs Harris and I were really pleased by how quickly this improvement occurred.

Those children who arrived late on Thursday morning because of the motorway closure won’t have a late mark because it was an exceptional circumstance. This criterion would also be applied if the police close the motorway at any point in the future.

Please be aware though, however, that general traffic problems, which are a regular feature of travel around Newport, cannot be a reason for arriving late to school.

Communication and Website

We are in the process of looking at the ways we communicate with you as a school and we are also reviewing our school website. It will be helpful to get your thoughts on these and a questionnaire will be coming out to you about this at Parents’ Evening this week which I would very much appreciate you completing. It will be available near side door on your way in.

School Lottery

Congratulations to our winner this week Debra.

Finally, congratulations to St Joseph’s RC High School, who won the Secondary School of the Year Award in the South Wales Argus Education Awards last Thursday!

Yours sincerely,

H Vaughan

Executive Headteacher
