April 2025 Newsletter: St Gabriel’s RC Primary School

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a refreshing and enjoyable Easter break. It’s wonderful to see the children returning full of energy, ready for the exciting weeks ahead.

Although this half term is a short one, it is the starting point of a summer term that is packed with learning, events, and activities from class trips and themed days to sports fixtures and creative projects. We’re looking forward to making every moment count!

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Cofion gorau,

Mrs Maria Harris

Pope Francis

It is with deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, a figure whose leadership, compassion, and commitment to faith has touched millions worldwide.

Tomorrow in our assembly we will be reflecting on his life and focusing upon his powerful message: Live Wisely, Think Deeply, Love Generously. These words are not just a guide but a call to each of us to live with kindness and thoughtfulness. By embracing this mission, we can continue to build a community that reflects Pope Francis’ vision—one where love and understanding are at the heart of all we do, both in our school and in the wider world.

Raising Money for a Defibrillator

The Daily Mile challenge has started this week for the Well-being Ministry’s fundraising challenge to raise money towards purchasing a defibrillator that will make our school and community a safer place. Thank you very much for those sponsor forms and monies that have come into school today. Here’s a reminder of the information shared previously that was put together by our Well-being Ministry: https://sway.cloud.microsoft/TbbzDcBDikTM3Jh8?ref=Link

Thank you for all the support that’s already been shown for this excellent cause.

A number of parents have enquired about how to make a donation beyond the sponsorship event, and so an open donation link has been set up via ParentPay also.

Personalised Assessments Information (Years 2 – 6)

As part of the national assessment arrangements in Wales, all pupils in Years 2 to 6 will shortly be completing their personalised assessments in reading and numeracy through the Hwb online platform. These assessments are designed to adapt to each child’s responses, providing a supportive experience that helps identify individual strengths and areas for development. The information gathered is used to inform teaching and ensure that each pupil receives the support and challenge they need.

In our school, the assessments will be taking place in school over the weeks beginning 9th and 16th June.

Summer is almost here!

As we enjoy the sunshine and the longer, brighter days, a reminder that our weather can still be very unpredictable! Please ensure your child brings a lightweight, labelled coat to school each day, even if the morning looks promising.

Hopefully we will have a sunny summer term and if this is the case, please remember to apply sun cream to your child before they come to school and ensure they bring a water bottle to help them stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep everyone comfortable and safe.
